April 2025
Happy April. No fooling here. As we get closer to the end of the school year, it’s the time when out-of-district students need to apply for attendance for next year. Attendance agreements have been sent to existing students. The form is also available here on the school website (Out-of-District Attendance Agreement) or pick one up from Eudeen at the main office. The deadline to turn in attendance agreement requests is May 8, 2025. All out-of-district students must apply for attendance each year. It is likely that we will not have bus service next year for out-of-district students as presently we don’t have enough bus drivers. Decision making by the school board on out-of-district attendance requests will take place at the June 3, 2025 school board meeting.
Election day is May 6, 2025. At this time it appears that the election will be canceled by the trustees and will be called by acclamation due to fewer people running for school board than the number of seats available. Official notice will be given by the district clerk after April 4, 2025.
Regarding 8th grade graduation and the idea of canceling it, the board reviewed the policies at the April 1, 2025 meeting. The decision was to suspend the policy for the remainder of this school year. The principal will arrange for how graduation will be handled based on this decision by the school board. There will be some type of program to celebrate the promotion of all students. Moving forward, the board will look at amending the current policy or eliminating the policy.
The trustees also hired an athletic director and basketball coaches for next year at the meeting. Rocky Galloway will be the athletic director and oversee the boy’s basketball program. Lola Galloway will oversee the girl’s basketball program. Each will be assistant coaches for the other. The school advertised for these positions and interviewed multiple applicants. A question came up about what certification is required to be the AD. There is no requirement. However, I had already put into place mandatory courses for the AD and all Vaughn coaches including those that wish to volunteer. The courses will be on the NFHSlearn site and will include a fundamentals of coaching course which is valid for 5 years and also a concussion course which needs to be completed annually. This program begins with the 2025-26 school year.
The OPI sent out updated budget numbers for next year and these include inflationary increases from the legislature. Our budget looks to be essentially the same as the current year. We will still look to restructure some non-teaching positions to prepare for annual salary increases for the staff and increased costs across the district.
We are advertising for various teaching positions for next year. Please see the school website if you are interested.
Have a great month.
